Four days. Horses. A way forward.
Reserve Your PlaceMost of us have been told that if we just believed in ourselves more, things would change. So we try. We affirm, we push, we work on ourselves. And still, underneath it all, the old feeling: not quite enough.
Not believing in yourself is real. It isn't weakness, and it isn't something you can affirm your way out of. It's a real problem. But here is what I've learned in twenty years of this work: on its own, with no way forward, it becomes the problem — the one that quietly stops you from doing anything at all. Belief with nowhere to go doesn't move you. It just becomes a wish.
That is what these four days are. Not a place to be fixed. A path — alongside horses who meet you exactly where you are, and a framework, refined over two decades, that turns I want to believe in myself into something you can follow, step by step.
The horse is where you first feel it is possible. A horse responds only to what is real in you — it can't do otherwise — and in that response something begins: a relationship in which you feel, in your body, that you are enough for it. The old fear doesn't vanish. But for the first time there is another path beside it, one you can choose. With awareness comes choice. That is the work.
It begins with the horse, but it doesn't end there. What you find here, you carry home — toward the people, toward the life, that were always yours to belong to.
A small herd. Open desert. Hosted glamping under a sky that turns gold at the end of every day. All meals, nothing to arrange — just the quiet your body has been asking for.
You don't need any experience with horses. The days follow the seven stages — the framework at the heart of my book, Equine Alchemy: What Horses Make Possible — The 7 Stages of Turning Human Potential Into Gold, publishing this September. Each stage moves you further along one path: from the self you were conditioned to be, toward what becomes possible when you stop being separate. You won't need to read the book first. Here, you live it.
You come exactly as you are. And as with every person I work with, before a single horse is met, this is the first work: becoming safe enough, together, to stop holding ourselves apart.

"Relationship in Motion" — the work itself, in the round pen, with the herd looking on
If you are a coach, a facilitator, a therapist, or a guide of any kind, you already know the hardest part isn't believing in yourself. It's holding a path steady enough that another person can find their own way along it.
So much of this work lives in presence — meeting each client where they are, responding to what is actually right before them rather than imposing a script. That responsiveness is the art. But presence without a map can leave even seasoned practitioners reaching. The seven stages are that map: not a script that replaces your presence, but the ground that lets you trust it — a structure rigorous enough to stand in professional settings, and human enough to hold real change.
Here you experience the stages in your own body first — because you cannot guide anyone through a door you have not walked through yourself. What you live in these four days becomes something you can carry into your own practice. The retreat also carries 24 ICF Continuing Education Units (CCEUs), and for those who want to go further, it is a doorway into the full Equine Alchemy certification.
You came to learn how to help others. It begins, always, with a path through yourself.
A private working ranch in Patagonia, Arizona, run by Shannon Russell — an Equine Alchemy graduate who has made a place that's beautiful and lived-in: a real working ranch, not a showpiece. The horses live here. The land is theirs as much as ours. That matters.
You gather under the ramada by day and around a string-lit table at night, where dinner is served alfresco under the desert sky. There is an indoor space with reclaimed wood and soft light for the quieter, inward work. Meals are prepared for you. There is nothing to arrange.

It begins with what you find in yourself. It deepens with the horse. And it arrives — this is the part most never reach — in how you live with everyone else.
"I came to learn how to help and treat other people. Then I realized it had to begin with a whole journey of myself. Even though I'd done a lot of work, being healed by the horses was a totally new way — a very profound healing, but soft and gentle."Dr. Maite Czupper · Brussels, Belgium · Equine Alchemy Graduate
"It's been the process of connecting with self — and the powerful reminder of connection with others, with other sentient beings, and the impact we have. That's the biggest thing."Alanna Levensen · Executive Coach · Equine Alchemy Graduate
"My first workshop with Equine Alchemy was absolutely transformative. I now have a solid framework for relating to people and myself — presence, boundaries, communication, connection — all thanks to the incredibly warm, radiant, and wise Lisa Murrell."Amanda Jones · Utah · Workshop Participant
"Healing ourselves is the start of healing everything around us — society, people, family. I own several businesses, and I can't wait to take these moments home to share with the people I work with."Barbara Angeli-Poisson · Budapest, Hungary · Equine Alchemy Graduate

I'm an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and the founder of Equine Alchemy. Across a twenty-six-year career I began in the corporate world, consulting to Fortune 500 companies — Amazon, Coca-Cola, Pfizer, London Business School — and the last fifteen years have been a different kind of work entirely: guiding leaders, coaches, and seekers through deep change alongside horses.
I came to the horses after sensing — in the meetings, the offices, the leadership retreats and off-sites — that something essential was missing. In those rooms, and in myself. Eventually I made the horses my foundation. They don't let you perform. They respond only to what is real, and in their presence the thing you've hidden even from yourself becomes something you can finally feel.
I'm an Advanced Epona Instructor and published researcher in experiential learning. My ICF accredited program has graduated 107 coaches. My book, Equine Alchemy: What Horses Make Possible, publishes September 2026.
This retreat is that book, lived — four days of the work itself, with the horses, in the desert. The way home is toward each other. I'll meet you there.
None at all. The work doesn't require horsemanship — it requires your willingness to stop explaining yourself and start being felt. That's available to anyone.
The seven stages are the framework at the heart of the book Equine Alchemy, publishing September 2026. They are the path — from the conditioned self toward what becomes possible when we stop being separate. You don't need to know them in advance. At the retreat, you live them in order, with the horses as your guide.
Triple HP Ranch in Patagonia, Arizona is a private working ranch with a small herd and open desert. The glamping is fully hosted — real beds, string lights, the kind of setup that looks like a fairy tale under an Arizona sky. All meals are prepared for you. There is nothing to arrange.

Especially. The retreat is built first for practitioners — coaches, therapists, facilitators, guides — who want to experience the seven stages in their own body and carry a real framework into their work. It carries 24 ICF Continuing Education Units (CCEUs) and is a doorway into the full Equine Alchemy certification. And it is just as open to anyone, in any walk of life, who feels the pull of horses and wants a path of their own.
Because presence alone is hard to build a business on. Most equine and somatic practitioners can feel when something real is happening — but when a client asks "what happens next?", or when you try to describe your work to someone deciding whether to pay for it, it depends isn't enough to stand on. The seven stages give you a through-line: a way to name where a client is, what comes next, and why — without losing the responsiveness that makes the work alive. It's the difference between doing good work and being able to offer it, repeatedly and with confidence. That's what turns a gift into a practice you can actually sustain.

This is what the work looks like.
Not immediate. Not perfect. But real. And lasting.
He's a scientist from Prague — accomplished, in the way that can feel like a trap, when what you're known for and what you feel inside have quietly drifted apart.
He traveled to Tucson for three days with the horses. On the first day, Lisa gave him feedback he'd never received in any lab or lecture hall: that he was almost transparent. Not fully showing up. Not fully present.
Eight months later, he wrote:
"I felt certain I had to become visible and change the situation. So I bought my first horse — an old, lame, blind horse that couldn't even be ridden. It felt like buying the freedom of the whole world. After I bought him, he essentially stopped limping. Now we are enjoying trail rides in local forests again. I can still feel a piece of the desert in my heart. And I am really grateful that it became part of me."

This is what the path makes possible. It's what you come to find for yourself — and, if you guide others, what you'll be able to help them find too.
